Our Curriculum

The UCI School of Medicine curriculum has evolved over the last 10 years from a traditional, discipline-based structure to a systems-organized approach known as iTEACH (Technology-Enhanced, Activity-Coordinated, Humanistic).

The program objectives for the UCI School of Medicine are guided by a knowledgeable, skillful, altruistic, and dutiful competency framework. To become eligible for the MD degree, each UCI medical student must demonstrate mastery of the material presented in the courses and programs of the curriculum. A varied and comprehensive set of assessment methods are used in the required courses and associated with the program objectives to determine medical students’ progress in developing the competencies required for advancement toward the MD degree.

Our curriculum has evolved from a traditional, discipline-based structure to a systems-organized approach known as iTEACH (Technology-Enhanced, Activity-Coordinated, Humanistic). iTEACH includes critical opportunities for students to engage in coordinated simulation, ultrasound, and clinical skills modules with the aim of further increasing clinical correlation with the basic sciences by enabling hands-on opportunities to situate student learning.

Electives

The UCI School of Medicine offers a wide variety of elective courses. Extramural elective applications for visiting students are managed through the AAMC VSLO process.
